The summer transfer window is in full effect and Barcelona seek to be active and have reportedly set in motion a plan to pull off two ambitious signings.

The interest in Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams was evident with the latest rumors reporting the Catalan side have not only met with his agent but have presented a formal offer to Williams and are confident a deal can get done.

Another player they were after was Dani Olmo. The RB Leipzig midfielder had a good showing at EURO 2024, especially after replacing Pedri after he picked up an injury.

His potential signing was almost cast aside as the priority was, and continues to be, Nico Williams. However, it's not one or the other for the Catalan side as they reportedly want to sign both and believe that possibility could become a reality.

What's more Barcelona have already made a contract proposal to Olmo, offering a six-year deal.

July 20 was the deadline to be able to sign Olmo from RB Leipzig for the €60 million release clause. Any team that wants to sign him now will have to sit down and negotiate with the Bundesliga side.

This might not be the worst news for Barcelona.

According to Sport, RB Leipzig could facilitate Olmo's exit as a show of good faith since he could have left last season to Manchester City but opted to stay. During his tenure with the German club, he's shown his commitment and never angled for a move.

Barcelona could then opt to pay more than the release clause by agreeing on a lower fixed fee and then including variables that could end up making the deal worth more. In theory, it could be beneficial for all sides involved.

The obvious question becomes is how Barcelona will be able to afford both signings considering the club's financial situation.

They've yet to announced the Nike deal which could go a long way towards helping them return to the 1:1 rule, allowing them to use any funds received from a sale on a potential transfer.

Until that happens, however, this dream isn't likely to happen. Manchester City are still in the mix and considering where the two clubs stand currently on sporting terms, the Premier League side is a far superior option.

Still, Olmo did come out of La Masia and could prefer a return back home.

The interest in Nico Williams, at this moment, makes more sense given their need for someone on the left wing. Olmo's less so because of the options they have in midfield. Should Olmo arrive, it would probably mean Barcelona have to sell one of their midfielders.

In any case, expect one of these two players to be in a Barcelona jersey come next season, While Joan Laporta would like to see both, given the necessities of the club, particularly in central midfield, many believe the priority should be Williams, then a pivot and then see if there is funds available for any other signing.
