Barcelona officially present Dani Olmo as their new player

It's a homecoming for now former RB Leipzig player Dani Olmo as the midfielder has signed a six-year deal to return to Barcelona.

The Catalan side made his signing official with the La Masia product set to don the number 20, previously worn by club captain Sergi Roberto.

"FC Barcelona and RB Leipzig have reached an agreement for the transfer of Dani Olmo," the club statement read. "The player will sign a contract with the Club for the next six seasons, until 30 june 2030, and his buy out clause is set at 500 million euros."

It's Barcelona's first significant signing of the summer. They did sign Pau Victor from Girona but that was more for the 'B' team although he impressed in all three matches during Barcelona's U.S. tour.

Dani Olmo returns to Barcelona following ten years playing abroad. He left Barcelona to go to Croatia to play for Dynamo Zagreb. After that, he made the move to the Bundesliga to RB Leipzig where he has flourished.

Olmo had a standout EURO 2024, becoming one of Spain's most important players, both as a substitute and a starter, on their way to winning the European title.

Initially, Olmo was supposed to be presented on Thursday. The presentation was canceled and it is now expected he will be officially unveiled on Monday prior to the Joan Gamper match against AS Monaco.

Barcelona did not reveal the transfer paid and there are two figures floating about. Fabrizio Romano reported that the agreement reached with RB Leipzig was for a fixed amount of 55 million euros with 7 million in add-ons. The other figure is 47 million euros fixed with 13 million in add-ons.

Regardless, it was a significant investment. An investment Barcelona deemed necessary. The next steps is for the club to register Olmo with LaLiga, something they think they'll be able to do after finally receiving the 40 million euros owed in the Libero agreement through Aramark.

As mentioned, Olmo will be unveiled prior to the Joan Gamper match, though Barcelona will be hoping he isn't the only unveiling they make that day.
