Barcelona gave an update on the status of Pedri who suffered an injury during the opening minutes of Spain's quarterfinal match against Germany in EURO 2024.

"Tests carried out this morning at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper have revealed that Pedri has a left knee sprain. He is out and his recovery will determine his availability," the club statement read.

As usual, Barcelona don't give an estimate of how long a player is going to be out but it is estimated that Pedri will be out for five weeks, ruling him out of Barcelona's U.S. tour.

This latest injury is a bit unlucky for the young midfielder whose had a start/stop last couple of seasons due to injury. Those injuries were hamstring ones and partially blamed on a lack of conditioning.

This time around, it came from a challenge by Toni Kroos. Pedri tried to play on but was unable to continue.

It hasn't been the best summer for Barcelona when it comes to injuries as they also provided an update on the status of Ronald Araujo.

"Tests carried out at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper have shown that the first team player Ronald Araujo has a tendon injury in his right hamstring," the statement read.

The Uruguayan center-back's injury is much more significant as they were weighing up the option of surgery. In the end, the conclusion was reached that Araujo would indeed have surgery, ruling him out for four months.

If there is some sort of solace for Barcelona is they do have some cover at center-back. Still, losing someone like Araujo is a major blow.

Hansi Flick is going to have his work cut out for him to start the season as he'll be without two of his best player. Then there's Frenkie de Jong who is recovering from an injury of his own.

Barcelona have had to make do without Pedri and Araujo on multiple occasions the last couple of seasons. As mentioned, they have cover in defense. Depending on how their summer transfer window goes, they could also add more cover in midfield or turn to La Masia, which has bailed them out of the fire in recent years.
