For PSG, it turned out to be a lucky move that the French club drew Real Sociedad. After coming in second place in Group F, other than that disappointment, there doesn’t seem to be any fear of retribution hitting PSG hard. By avoiding an undeniably stronger opponent, PSG won themselves a seemingly favorable draw against Real Sociedad.

PSG’s Brazilian defender Marquinhos has already responded to the draw, saying that Real Sociedad is well deserved for how fit they have been and pointing out that what’s important for Parisians right now isn’t merely individuals; it's their collective strength that prevails. He emphasizes that it is critical to put in a strong performance when you must.

In this case, the financial picture is also brought into focus. The two teams’ squad value, according to Transfermarkt, is nearly €600 million apart. PSG, with a roster valued at over € 1 billion tackles Real Sociedad whose squad is worth just under half that amount (around €431 million).

The focus now moves to February and March, when these encounters will take place. On-field excitement is promised, as are upcoming winter transfers.

The burning question is: who will be the quarterfinals surprise?
