Liverpool dealt blow in race for the Premier League title
Liverpool were dealt a blow in their chase for the Premier League title as they dropped three points following a 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace at Anfield.
The visiting side went up early courtesy of Eberechi Eze in the 14th minute of the first half. It was a well-constructed goal from Palace as Eze simply needed to guide the ball in the back of the net after being left unmarked inside the penalty box.
Crystal Palace were the better side in the first half and could have gone 2-0 up had it not been for Andrew Robertson clearing a ball off the line.
Not one to give up, especially at home, Liverpool threw everything they had to get an equalizer. It was a day where the ball simply didn't want to go in for Liverpool as they did create a handful of chances. Liverpool were unable to convert and even hit the post on a couple of occasions.
Credit to Crystal Palace who didn't sit back once they went up. Their defense bent at times but did enough to keep Liverpool scoreless even if they did count their luck a few times.
"The amount of blocks, passes across, blocks. They made save after save for me, I had to make saves as well. I felt like I was out there for about a year, we rode out luck at times but I'm delighted," said Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
"I think the lads believed we could do somethings today on the coach today, the pressure was on them. If we play our stuff and once bodies come back, with what the manager has got us doing, we will be playing good stuff."
For Liverpool, the loss is a huge dent to their title aspirations. The loss now sees the Reds fall to third place in the Premier League, two points behind Manchester City and level with Arsenal -- at the time of writing, Arsenal are yet to play Aston Villa.
If results don't go Liverpool's way, then their season all but ended in a matter of days.
In the Europe League, Liverpool were thumped 3-0 by Atalanta. The loss to Crystal Palace is the second one at home in three days. something quite unusual for them.
The only thing left Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp is try to win out and hope Arsenal and Manchester City drop points. Their next match in the league is against Fulham. But before that, they travel to Italy for the second leg against Atalanta where, barring a miracle, the tie looks about over.
