Erik Ten Hag is running against time to save his job at Manchester United. The Dutchman has had his share of criticism in recent weeks after his team's dismal performances in both the Premier League and Champions League.

Thursday's showdown at Old Trafford against Chelsea presents another major challenge for the former Ajax boss. Despite the home advantage, Ten Hag's squad faces an uphill battle, grappling with defensive woes that have plagued their fortress this season.

Chelsea's superior form, highlighted by their inspiring 3-2 victory over Brighton, potentially grants them a slight advantage over the underperforming Manchester United side.

There have been enormous amounts of chatter regarding Ten Hag's future at the club. The rumor mill suggests that the club is ready to show the exit door to the Dutchman.

Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit was quick to agree on Ten Hag's dismissal from the club and suggested that a loss against the Blues could result in his sacking . The former Gunners star, in an interview with King Casino Bonus, went on to say:

"Man United have not had much stability in the dugout this season and I still don't understand the protection surrounding Ten Hag.

"You can see that he has issues with several players, and that has a great impact on the confidence of the team.

“These aren't recent issues - it's been the case for months now! I don't know what the board are expecting, but I think a loss to Chelsea could spell the end for Erik ten Hag"

A loss against Chelsea might push Ten Hag on the brink of an exit, but it wouldn't inherently mean immediate doom if the overall situation at the club is stable and the board believes in his long-term vision.

For now,the Dutchman has to handle the pressure of avoiding a defeat on home turf and at the same time, he will be working to rebuild trust with his players. Failing these pivotal tasks could be detrimental to his chances of saving his seat at the helm.
