A 3-2 win for Manchester City against Fulham would sound just about routine for the reigning champions of the Premier League. However, it carries a tremendous amount of weight in terms of records. City have now equaled their longest run without defeat in the competition's history as 30 matches have been played continuously without their loss. More excitingly, Pep Guardiola's side has the chance to break the club's record on October 20 when they play against Wolverhampton.

This run not only cements City's place in club history but also elevates them among the legends of the Premier League. Now, it stands as the fourth-longest unbeaten run in the league, behind only Arsenal's incredible 49-game streak between 2003 and 2004.

The record-breaking maestro

The one name that first comes to mind when you think about Manchester City over the last few years is Pep Guardiola. Among a very elite cadre, he truly is in a league of his own. Records were rewritten and an almost unstoppable force was developed since he came at the helm of the Citizens.

In April this year, Guardiola reached his 300th match at the helm of the club, making him the most successful coach over that span in Premier League history. He won 221 matches during this time, outpacing legends like José Mourinho, Jürgen Klopp, and Alex Ferguson. This says much about how well he is capable of turning talent into results.

What separates Guardiola, however, is his consistency. Since his maiden season with Barcelona, he has gathered an astonishing 12 league titles-which is double anyone else in Europe's top five leagues in the same period of time.

Complete Premier League domination

But seriously, the beauty of City's performance in the Premier League is how the team continued to fight their way at the top against all odds. After that defeat in December against Aston Villa, City ran riot with 24 victories out of 30 matches and scored a total of 77 goals. The run was important to seal last season's title with an astonishing nine-game winning streak toward the end of the campaign.

This is consistency that cannot be taken for granted. Very few teams can maintain such a high level of performance in what is arguably one of the most competitive leagues in the world, and City has made it look so carefree. Guardiola had already secured four back-to-back Premier League titles with City-a record never seen before in English soccer. Another team is yet to reach this level of dominance, which only amplifies just how far ahead of the competition this squad really is.

A fine beginning to the new season

With five wins in the first seven matches and two draws, Manchester City have started the new campaign on a high. Though it is early into the season, it is pretty clear that the team would do all they can to sustain the momentum. City are targeting their 11th title in history, and going by the current squad there is little reason to doubt them.

One of the clearest examples of this was their victory over Fulham. Other than it being their 17th consecutive win against the opponent, this result went down in history: it is now the longest any English club has ever won over another. Since this run started in 2012, City has scored 52 goals against Fulham, averaging more than three goals per game. These statistics say it all and make City the team to beat.
