Hansi Flick loses another option in midfield as Fermin Lopez, already recovering from an injury, suffered another injury during training.

The Barcelona midfielder took part in training with the group on Tuesday. That bit of good news was quickly wiped out as the Catalan club released a statement revealing his injury.

"The first team player suffered a muscular injury in his right thigh on Tuesday in training. He is expected to be out for a round three weeks," the statement read.

Lopez suffered his initial injury on international duty with Spain's U-21 side. His recovery had been going well and it was expected he could make his return either this weekend against Villarreal or next week against Getafe.

If there is any good news is the injury doesn't seem too severe given the three week recovery period.

Still, it comes at a real inopportune time given the limited options for Flick and the number of games Barcelona have to play this month.

Lopez joins Dani Olmo on the sidelines with the latter injuring his hamstring in Barcelona's 4-1 win against Girona last weekend.

Having been in the squad for EURO 2024 and playing every game in the Olympics in Paris, Barcelona wanted to be careful with him when he came back from his mini-vacation. Even with the injuries, he wasn't starting with the club trying to ease him back in.

It's difficult not to see a parallel between what Lopez is going through and what Pedri went through a couple of seasons ago. Only now is Pedri looking fit and displaying why many were excited about what he could do in his debut season.

In addition to Lopez not being out for too long, both Gavi and Frenkie de Jong took part in training with the Dutchman expected to get the medical green light next week if all goes well.

Flick has yet to have a full squad since taking charge. Despite all the absences, he has Barcelona playing well and sitting in first place in LaLiga with five wins out of five. But with the amount of games on the schedule, he'll be hoping to get as many of the injured players back as quickly as possible.
