Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that Ederson's place at Manchester City is not secure.
The reason being is there is interest from abroad for the Brazilian goalkeeper and his stay with the reigning Premier League champions cannot be guaranteed.
"I don't know. He has to see maybe now other options," Guardiola said after City's preseason friendly match against Celtic. "Of course I'd like him to stay. Depends now the clubs. I don't know the situation. No contact in the last days. A question of training and being with us until the transfer window finishes and we see what happens."
The 30-year-old goalkeeper joined Manchester City from Benfica back in 2017. He's been a fixture since and one of the reasons for City's success both in the Premier League and Champions League.
As for where the interest in Ederson is coming from, it's from Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr reportedly had a €30 million offer rejected by City. However, fellow league side Al-Ittihad is set to offer City €60 million for their starting goalkeeper.
The possibility Ederson could lead is real considering Guardiola's words of almost resignation when asked about it. A stark contras to what he said when talking about Kevin De Bruyne's future.
Kevin is not going," Guardiola said. "I am delighted with the squad for many years. I don't know what will happen in the market. If someone leaves, we will talk about that.
"But 85-95% we have the same squad. We've made an impact in the market and every situation is different. I feel comfortable because the quality we have in the squad is difficult to replace."
It's night and day when comparing the two statements.
Stefan Ortega played in City's loss to Celtic and played the final stretch of last season after Ederson picked up an injury in a match against Tottenham. Ortega had some crucial saves that game and has played well when called upon.
Ortega has done well as the back-up but whether or not he'll be trusted to be a starter in the EPL and Champions League remains to be seen.
The Saudi Pro League continues to flex its financial muscle and while Manchester City is one of the few clubs who may not need the money, they may receive an offer simply too good to pass up for Ederson.
