Contrary to what everyone was expecting, PSG are not having an easy time of it in their Ligue 1 matches at the start of the season. Despite winning the UEFA Super Cup and finishing runners-up in the World Cup, Luis Enrique's side have struggled to win against technically inferior opponents in the first two rounds despite their 100% record.
After a hard-fought win against Nantes, PSG repeated the 1-0 scoreline, this time against Angers, in the first game of the season at the Parc des Princes. However, the first half was marked by a lack of creativity from Luis Enrique's side and very solid defensive organization from the visitors, reminiscent of what Botafogo did in the Club World Cup, in the Brazilian team's historic win against the Parisians.
PSG could even have opened the scoring in the first half in the 27th minute, but Ousmane Dembélé ended up missing a penalty by shooting too high above the opposition goal, in a very strange move at the Parc des Princes. However, a clumsy defensive error by Angers at the start of the second half proved costly. Fabián Ruiz took advantage of an overhit ball and shot with precision into the back of the net to confirm the victory for Luis Enrique's side.
It's important to note that PSG created a few chances until the final whistle, but didn't suffer against an Angers attack that was unable to generate good scoring opportunities against the reigning champions, who still face Toulouse and Lens in the next two Ligue 1 matches.
The unexpected tribute to Donnarumma at PSG
However, what drew the most attention was the impromptu farewell that took place for goalkeeper Gianlugi Donnarumma, in a presentation ceremony that consisted of presenting the Champions League, Ligue 1, French Cup, Uefa Super Cup and French Super Cup trophies to the fans.
Without wearing any club symbol, the Italian goalkeeper ended up taking part in the festivities and joined his former teammates in the center of the stage, but he ended up getting a huge ovation from the crowd and didn't hide his emotion, crying in front of the fans and taking a walk around the Parc des Princes before the ball rolled, a situation that certainly left Luis Enrique embarrassed.
