PSG have won only two of their last nine meetings with Real Madrid, both victories coming in Paris.
Los Blancos meantime have won four of their last seven against les Rouge-et-Bleu, including eliminating them from the Champions League the last time the pair met in March 2022.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Real Madrid preview

The reigning European champions face the side who've won the Champions League in six of the last 12 seasons, but who will move on step closer to becoming champions of the world on Sunday?

Paris Saint-Germain came into this Club World Cup as favourites to go all the way, underlining why during the tournament's opening weekend, demolishing Atlético Madrid 4-0 at the Rose Bowl. Luis Enrique's team did then suffer a shock 1-0 defeat to Botafogo, but a 2-0 victory over Seattle Sounders saw them ultimately top Group B. Then, in the round of 16, les Parisiens enjoyed the most comfortable victory of their entire campaign, 4-0 up by half time as Inter Miami were steamrollered.

Les Rouge-et-Bleu's quarter-final on Saturday against Bayern Munich was unquestionably more nervy, as it very much could have gone either way. Nevertheless, Désiré Doué and then Ousmane Dembélé both struck in the final 12 minutes at Mercedes-Benz Stadium as PSG snuck through 2-0. The European champions have won all four competitions they've entered this season, claiming yet another domestic treble and a first-ever Champions League crown, so will they prevail here too?

Real Madrid meantime are the record five-times Club World Cup winners, to go with their four Intercontinental Cup titles, believing it will be them capturing yet more silverware on Sunday. The Xabi Alonso era began with a nervy 1-1 draw against Al-Hilal, but los Blancos then smashed both Pachuca and RB Salzburg to top Group H. Their round of 16 clash with Juventus in Miami was not a classic, but Gonzalo García's towering header shortly after half time proved to be the difference in South Florida.

Los Merengues' quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund at the weekend was a lot more entertaining, even if it didn't appear as though this would be the case. Gonzalo García and then Fran García saw them race into an early 2-0 lead, after which very little happened, until stoppage time that is. Dortmund pulled one back in the third minute of injury time, Kylian Mbappé then scored a spectacular bicycle kick, only for die Schwarzgelben to make it 3-2 from the penalty spot, but the Bundesliga side simply ran out of time to mount a full-scale remontada in East Rutherford.

Thus, a champions of Europe and the record 15-times Champions League winners will meet in this blockbuster tie on Wednesday, but who will win a heavyweight showdown at MetLife Stadium?

  • Paris Saint-Germain Wins: 4. Draws: 3. Real Madrid Wins: 5.

Paris Saint-Germain team news

Defenders Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernández were sent off late on against Bayern Munich, as Luis Enrique's side held on with nine-men, but both will be suspended here. Thus, Lucas Beraldo will come in to partner his compatriot Marquinhos at the back.

Elsewhere, Lucho's lineup remains settled, but could Ousmane Dembélé come into the team? PSG's top-scorer has come off the bench during the last two matches, having recovered from a hamstring injury, scoring in Atlanta at the weekend, so will he start in place in Bradley Barcola this time?

Paris Saint-Germain predicted lineup vs Real Madrid: (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Hakimi, Beraldo, Marquinhos, Mendes; João Neves, Vitinha, Fabián; Doué, Dembélé, Kvaratskhelia.

Paris Saint-Germain player to watch vs Real Madrid

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has been excellent since joining PSG in January, scoring eight goal to date, so could he be the hero in New Jersey?

Real Madrid team news

New signing Dean Huijsen was sent off right at the death against Dortmund, meaning he is suspended, which isn't ideal considering Dani Carvajal, Éder Militão, David Alaba, Ferland Mendy and Lucas Vázquez all remain injured, leaving Xabi Alonso short of defensive options. Thus, Raúl Asencio, who has not started since himself being shown a red card against Pacuhca, could come back in.

Alonso has switched to a back three since the win over Salzburg, with Aurélien Tchouaméni deployed as a hybrid centre-back, able to move forward into midfield, something we're likely to see here too.

The big question mark though comes in attack. Having been hospitalised with acute gastroenteritis, Kylian Mbappé missed the entire group phase, coming off the bench during both knockout ties. In his absence, youngster Gonzalo García has scored four Club World Cup goals, currently leading the golden boot race, so will the Spaniard keep his place, or will Mbappé start for the first time since May?

Real Madrid predicted lineup vs Paris Saint-Germain: (3-4-3): Courtois; Rüdiger, Asencio, Tchouaméni; Alexander-Arnold, Valverde, Güler; García, Bellingham, Vinícius, Mbappé.

Real Madrid player to watch vs Paris Saint-Germain

We've already mentioned him, but worth highlighting Kylian Mbappé for a little longer. He is PSG's all-time record goalscorer with 256, taking his tally to 44 for his first season at Real Madrid with the spectacular winner on Saturday. So, set to face the Ligue 1 champions for the first time since departing, can he fire los Blancos into the Club World Cup Final?

Paris Saint-Germain vs Real Madrid prediction

We are backing PSG for victory at MetLife Stadium, given that Luis Enrique's team is more settled and cohesive than that of the recently-appointed Xabi Alonso, although this tie in East Rutherford could certainly go either-way, so expect high-quality and goals: Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 Real Madrid.
