Serie A's penultimate matchday will bring together two teams who have disappointed for much of the season and need a win to keep their pursuit of a place in the next Champions League on track. This Sunday, the Stadio Olimpico hosts a must-win derby between Roma and AC Milan.

Roma showed a strong sign of reaction under Claudio Ranieri, but the experienced coach saw his impressive run of 19 games unbeaten (with 14 wins) come to an end with a 2-1 defeat to a strong Atalanta side. At the moment, Juventus and Lazio are in the lead on 64 points, but Roma are close behind on 63 points and Bologna have 62 points.

Even with the frustration of the result at the weekend, the Giallorossi have scored 43 points since the start of 2025 with only ten goals conceded and ten games without conceding a goal. Despite this huge success, Claudio Ranieri has already warned that he won't be renewing his contract and is heading towards the end of his third spell at his boyhood club.

The only certain absentees are Lorenzo Pellegrini and Paulo Dybala, but coach Claudio Ranieri will be relying on Artem Dovbyk, who has scored 12 Serie A goals since being signed from Girona at the start of last season.

Unlike the good feelings that surround Roma in this final stretch of the season, Milan are experiencing absurd frustration after being beaten by Bologna in the Coppa Italia final, despite the great favoritism they acquired after a 3-0 win in the second leg of the semi-finals against Inter Milan.

Unable to score a single goal in 90 minutes at the Stadio Olimpico, Sergio Conceicao's side have already seen the impact of their Supercoppa title in January completely deflated, and are dealing with a great deal of irregularity in Serie A (even if they have won their last three games). The last time Milan won four in a row was over a year ago.

In Milan's line-up, the Portuguese coach will once again opt for a 3-4-2-1 formation, led by American Christian Pulisic, who has scored 20 goals in the current Serie A season and recently renewed his contract.
