Tottenham are unbeaten in eight meetings with Doncaster Rovers, winning each of the last three.

The pair have only met twice since 1956, both in the League Cup, with Spurs 7-2 winners at White Hart Lane in 1975, with Spurs 5-1 winners at the Keepmoat Stadium back in 2009; Tom Huddlestone, Jamie O'Hara, Peter Crouch, David Bentley and Roman Pavlyuchenko the scorers that night.

Tottenham vs Doncaster preview

Having ended their trophy draught by winning last season's Europa League in Bilbao, Tottenham supporters have got a taste of success, so are simply craving even more. Now manager Thomas Frank has made a generally impressive start to life as the new Spurs boss, accumulating ten points from five Premier League matches to date. On Saturday, they appeared set to slump to a defeat at Brighton, 2-0 down inside half an hour, but fought back to earn a draw, with Richarlison halving the deficit, before a late own goal saw Spurs pinch a point in Sussex.

Meantime, last mid-week, Tottenham commenced their Champions League campaign by beating Villarreal 1-0 at home, returning to Bodø/Glimt on matchday two in just six night's time. Before then, Spurs should cruise through to the Carabao Cup fourth round with a victory in this tie.

As for Doncaster Rovers, having enjoyed away wins at Middlesbrough and Accrington Stanley, this is the first appearance in round three since 2017, not going further than this in the League Cup since 2005/06. Grant McCann's team made a flying start to the EFL League One season too, winning five of their first seven fixtures, including beating league-leaders Bradford 3-1 at home earlier this month.

However, the Red and White Army have since suffered successive defeats, smashed 3-0 at Wigan, before a late collapse when AFC Wimbledon visited the catchily named Eco-Power Stadium at the weekend, beaten 2-1. This has seen them slip down to seventh, ahead of Saturday's trip to Luton, and it would be one of the biggest shocks of all time if Doncaster dumped out Spurs on Wednesday.

Antonín Kinský is likely to make his first appearance of the season in goal, while deadline day signing Randal Kolo Muani should be able to return, sitting out the trip to Brighton due to a dead leg.

Kōta Takai, Radu Drăgușin, Dejan Kuluševski, James Maddison and Dominic Solanke remain sidelined, but Frank will still be able to name a strong stating lineup.

Tottenham Hotspur predicted lineup vs Doncaster Rovers: (4-3-3): Kinský; Spence, Gray, Danso, Davies; Palhinha, Matar Sarr, Simons; Johnson, Odobert, Tel.

Tottenham player to watch vs Doncaster

Mathys Tel was very annoyed to be excluded from the Champions League squad, but injuries to others means he's likely to lead the line here, so can he stake a claim for more regular minutes?

Tottenham vs Doncaster prediction

As already alluded to, we simply cannot see Doncaster causing a shock in North London, with Tottenham likely to swat aside their League one visitors: Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Doncaster Rovers.
