Sunderland are seeking back-to-back victories over Wolves for the first time since 2009, albeit this will be their first encounter for eight years. Dating back to 1981, Wolves have won only two of 17 visits to Wearside.

Sunderland vs Wolves preview

Can Sunderland continue their imperious home record? So far, the Black Cats have yielded seven points from their three Premier League matches at the Stadium of Light, beating both West Ham and then Brentford, before a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa, in which they played for over an hour down to ten men, following Reinildo Mandava's red card, making it a credible point.

Last time out, Régis Le Bris' side were beaten for only the second time this season, defeated 2-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford. Nevertheless, Sunderland remain ninth in the table, already seven points clear of the relegation zone. Now though, with Chelsea and Arsenal to come in the next few weeks, the Black Cats will surely be targeting victory from this clash on Wearside.

As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, they travel to the North East still searching for their first Premier League victory of the season. After five successive defeats, Vítor Pereira's team have earned back-to-back draws, although neither warranted much cause for celebration. First, they were denied victory in North London by virtue of Tottenham's 94th minute equaliser, before Brighton pinched a point with four minutes to play at Molineux a fortnight ago, both encounters ending 1-1.

Thus, this remains Wolves' worst-ever start to any season, but Pereira has been backed with a new three-year contract, and they've been nowhere near as hopeless as their points tally would suggest. Now, following this trip to Wearside, Wolves will welcome Burnley to Molineux next Sunday, both of which are, arguably, must win. So, can the visitors haul themselves off the foot of the table, or will Sunderland continue to make home advantage count?

Sunderland team news

This is the final game of Reinildo Mandava's three-match ban, while Habib Diarra is sidelined long-term and both Omar Alderete and Noah Sadiki are doubts, but should be ready to go.

Arthur Masuaku will continue to deputise at left-back, withh Nordi Mukiele in the middle, while Bertrand Traoré started for the club for the first time at Old Trafford, chosen over Chemsdine Talbi, so who will Régis Le Bris go for in attack this time?

Sunderland predicted lineup vs Wolverhampton Wanderers: (4-3-3): Roefs; Hume, Mukiele, Alderete, Masuaku; Xhaka, Le Fée, Sadiki; Talbi, Adingra, Isidor.

Sunderland player to watch vs Wolves

Wilson Isidor has scored in all three Premier League matches at the Stadium of Light so far this season, so can he keep that streak going on Saturday?

Wolves team news

Since beating Everton in the EFL Cup, Vítor Pereira's lineup has had a fresh look to it, likely to once again stick with those who earned draws against Spurs and Brighton.

Sam Johnstone is set to start a third successive Premier League match in goal, chosen over José Sá, with Ladislav Krejčí alongside both Buenos, namely Hugo and Santiago, in defence.

Midfield duo João Gomes and André were both away with Brazil during the international break, while deadline day signing Tolu Arokodare could return in attack, after Hwang Hee-chan and Jhon Arias got the nod a fortnight agi.

Wolverhampton Wanderers predicted lineup vs Sunderland: (4-3-3): Johnstone; Tchatchoua, Krejčí, H Bueno, S Bueno; André, João Gomes, Munetsi; Arias, Hwang Hee-chan, Strand Larsen.

Wolves player to watch vs Sunderland

Jørgen Strand Larsen scored 14 Premier League goals last season, yet to get off the mark this time round, but will certainly be Wolves' most-dangerous attacker on Wearside.

Sunderland vs Wolves prediction

We are backing Sunderland to collect all three points at the Stadium of Light, likely to make home advantage count against rock-bottom Wolves: Sunderland 2-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers.
