New York Red Bulls responded on the pitch. Weeks after being beaten in the MLS Cup by LA Galaxy, the team met its adversary once again at Sports Illustrated Stadium and returned 7-0 with a resounding, conclusive performance that did little to leave doubt. The 7-0 score was unprecedented, and the technical as well as the emotional impact were instantaneous. It was the club's biggest home win ever as well as tied the record for the most goals scored in a single game.

The team's performance was good from the initial minutes and featured participation by the main players in the team. Galaxy, though, was unable to compete at any point in the game. The result affirms the power of a Red Bulls side that had a variable season start but gained a good rhythm during this round.

Forsberg and Choupo-Moting lead

Two names stood out: Emil Forsberg and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. Both found the net twice. Forsberg also provided two assists and joined Antony de Ávila, the second in club history to have multiple goals and assists in one MLS game, matching what he did in 1997.

The first goal was achieved as early as the 7th minute. Daniel Edelman picked up the ball in midfield and passed it to Choupo-Moting, who had one-twos with Forsberg before scoring into the corner. Omar Valencia played a pass over the back line to Forsberg at 16 minutes, who shot into the left side of the net. Forsberg picked Choupo-Moting at the 31-minute mark to go diagonally to the far post and he completed with his left foot nearside. Three solidly constructed plays, each completed in a tidy fashion.

Red Bulls did not give up. Early in the second half, Forsberg was awarded a free kick from 25 yards and rolled it into the top right corner of the Galaxy goal. A good game, without rush, but with justice.

Statistics supporting the performance

Forsberg had five goals and four assists for the season. He is now at 14 goals and nine assists on the Red Bulls. Choupo-Moting, with six goals, outranks the league's top-scoring rookie of this MLS season. It was the German player's first multi-goal game with the league.

The rout featured other players' efforts, however. Cameron Harper tallied the fifth on a rebound of Gjengaar's shot. It was his first goal since June of 2024. Wiktor Bogacz helped set up Gjengaar at 88 minutes, and scored the sixth. And in stoppage time, Miki Yamane's own goal locked in the score.

Harper is now up to 10 MLS goals. Gjengaar netted his second of the season. Bogacz got his first assist in the league. It was one of those games where everything went right.

Solid defense and another shutout by Coronel

Alternatively, Carlos Coronel had little to do but kept himself on the alert. On the 88th minute, he made a good save prior to the rebound that led to Harper's score. The goalie earned his fifth clean sheet in the year 2025 and the 40th of his MLS career. That ties him for second among the league this season.

Red Bulls have recorded their 97th shutout at Sports Illustrated Stadium since 2010, a high in the league during that span. The stats help to prove the defensive mark the club has set at home over the seasons.
