Tottenham’s movement in the January transfer market is neither random nor discreet. By selling Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace for £33.5 million, the club created room for a shift in direction. According to the Daily Mail, that shift points to Oscar Bobb, a Manchester City forward who has emerged as a possible direct replacement. The inquiry is real and says a lot about the type of player Spurs are targeting right now.

Why Oscar Bobb is on Spurs’ radar

Oscar Bobb is living a familiar paradox for anyone stuck inside a deep Manchester City squad. His talent is acknowledged internally, but opportunities are scarce. He’s made just five starts in the Premier League this season, with one assist and no goals.

Modest numbers, no doubt, but they need to be viewed in a context where competition is fierce and minutes are hard to come by. With City close to completing the signing of Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, the attacking picture becomes even more crowded. That naturally pushes Bobb into a vulnerable spot within the squad. At 22, he knows he needs regular playing time, especially in a year leading into the World Cup, when minutes on the field matter far more than promises.

The fit at Tottenham and a calculated risk

From Tottenham’s side, the idea doesn’t seem to be rushing to plug a hole. Thomas Frank has room to shape the attack and is looking for someone who brings tactical intelligence and mobility, among other qualities. Bobb would arrive as a conscious bet, particularly after Semenyo turned them down in favor of City’s project.

That move would give the player a chance to step off the bench and take on a bigger role. For Spurs, it’s a quieter, more rational gamble. In January, perfect choices are rare. Coherent ones aren’t. And within what the market offers, Bobb could represent exactly that, controlled risk, clear upside, and the urgency of someone who needs to play to avoid being left behind.
