Toronto FC routed CF Montréal 6-1 away from home at Stade Saputo, giving its biggest margin of victory in its history in regular-season MLS matches. The drubbing came within Rivalry Week, against its biggest national rival, and revealed the current differential between the two clubs.
With a Federico Bernardeschi score, a Theo Corbeanu score, a Tyrese Spicer score, and an Ola Brynhildsen score, the Reds had control of the game since the start and took advantage of Joel Waterman's red card to establish a record in the books. CF Montréal had its ninth loss of the season and gets worse with each round.
Explosive start sets the tone for the derby
Toronto FC did not have to wait long to gain control. As early as the 14th minute, Tyrese Spicer was played throughout wide on the left flank, used quick feet to beat his marker, and finished crisply into the corner for the first goal of his 2025 campaign. The forward also constituted the first assist from the team by Ola Brynhildsen.

Seven minutes into the match, CF Montréal was down to ten men after Joel Waterman was sent off for a tackle on Brynhildsen as the striker made an attempt for goal. The direct red card left the home team a man down and opened up space for Toronto to expand its domination.
In the 30th minute, Federico Bernardeschi took advantage of a mistake by Deybi Flores, pushed forward, and shot a powerful shot to contribute to the lead. The goal was the fifth contribution in the 2025 season contributed by the Italian and the action also converted to the first assist of the Honduran midfielder in the year.
Three minutes later, in the 33rd, Bernardeschi with his second assist, this time playing a ball around to Maxime Dominguez before playing him into space for a close-range finish. The Norwegian scored his first goal for the club. The move was also Dominguez's first assist for Toronto FC.
Prior to half-time, a fourth goal nearly materialized when Italian midfielder Lorenzo Insigne hit the crossbar with a vicious shot during stoppage time after a perfect outside-foot cross by Bernardeschi. The supremacy was sealed.
Second half resumes with another from Bernardeschi
Ten minutes after the restart, the Italian duo connected again, this time with better results. On the play, Bernardeschi received a pass from Insigne and fired an unstoppable shot from outside the box.
The goal in the 55th minute was Bernardeschi’s third since joining Toronto FC, having scored twice against CF Montréal in August 2023 and against FC Dallas in May 2024.
Having achieved the score of 4-0 and the other team dominated, Toronto kept possession, rotated the squad, and tried to extend the lead even further.

CF Montréal tries to counterattack, but the comeback is immediate
CF Montréal was able to dent the lead in the 64th minute. Giacomo Vrioni profited from a low cross by ex-Red Luca Petrasso inside the box. It was one of the few times the team was able to threaten the opposition defense effectively.
But whatever hopes there were for a comeback were dashed immediately. Two minutes into stoppage time, substitute Theo Corbeanu scored a thunderous left-footed shot and made it Toronto FC's fifth of the game. The action was on his 23rd birthday and was Corbeanu's fifth assist this season in 2025 since joining the club this year.

In stoppage time, the sixth goal came to seal the score and complete the historic win. Bernardeschi pounced on a weak pass and played it through for Corbeanu, who chipped the ball over goalkeeper Sébastian Breza to score his second in the game.
The goal in added time marked Corbeanu’s first two goals for the club and Bernardeschi’s fourth direct contribution of the afternoon, in a standout performance that cemented Toronto FC’s complete control of the 401 Derby.
