Tottenham took to the field under increased pressure after Bournemouth opened the Premier League round with a victory that put them in second place, but the Spurs were undaunted and dominated Leeds United in one of the rainiest Premier League games of the current season, ending the home team's unbeaten streak in 2025/26.

It is worth remembering that Leeds had not lost in front of their own fans for over a year, but despite a high-level performance, they were overcome by a sharp Spurs team led by new signing Mohammed Kudus, who played a crucial role in both goals of the match.

Leeds started the game much better and could have even opened the scoring with Joe Rodon's header from Sean Longstaff's free kick, but it ended up hitting the crossbar. This proved fatal, and Tottenham took the lead when Kudus played a superb pass to Mathys Tel, and the young French striker's shot deflected off Pascal Struijk, wrong-footing Karl Darlow to open the scoring in the 23rd minute.

It is worth noting that Daniel Farke's team reacted well, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin squandering a good chance before combining with Brenden Aaronson to help create the equalizer. Aaronson's shot was blocked by Guglielmo Vicario, but Noah Okafor was in the right place to tap in and level the score before halftime.

Tottenham sought victory in heavy rain

The rain intensified significantly after the break, and Tottenham ultimately came out on top. Calvert-Lewin was denied by Vicario once again, and Kudus saw a curling free kick palmed away by Darlow. But moments later, the Ghanaian showed a touch of class and made a beautiful move in the box before firing a low shot into the bottom corner to restore Spurs' lead.

With the advantage on the scoreboard, Tottenham adopted a defensive strategy and opted to slow down the pace of the game. Pedro Porro and Richarlison had chances to kill off the game, but Leeds continued to press until the final whistle. Rodon, Bogle, and Joel Piroe threatened to snatch a draw at the end, but Spurs held firm to secure the three points.
