Tottenham is back on the map for big moves, and the name making noise now is Samu Aghehowa. At 21, the Porto forward has become a hot topic in London after Fabio Paratici returned as sporting director and added him to the list of priorities to strengthen Thomas Frank’s squad. According to reports from the European press, the club has been closely monitoring every step of his development in Portugal.

A start that draws attention

The way Aghehowa began the season with Porto is exactly the kind of performance that catches scouts’ eyes across the continent. Strong, fast, and with a sharp goal instinct, he’s become one of the standout players in both the Portuguese league and the Europa League. It’s no surprise that every report reaching Tottenham is full of praise. The challenge, as usual, lies in the price. Samu’s contract runs until June 2029 and includes a release clause of £87 million, but Porto’s financial difficulties could push them to negotiate for significantly less.

In his first season, he scored 27 goals and provided three assists in 45 games — numbers that placed him among the most productive strikers in Europe. The fans quickly embraced their new idol, and the Portuguese press nicknamed him “the Spanish lightning.” The comparison isn’t far-fetched: even after suffering an injury at the start of the current campaign, Samu returned in top form, full of energy and with his scoring touch intact.

A battle of giants

His strong form has now turned him into the center of a transfer race that’s expected to heat up the European market. Besides Tottenham, Atlético Madrid is also considering a reunion. The Spanish club, which sold him for €32 million, included a buyback clause and is reportedly open to bringing him back.

From the English side, the interest is more strategic. Tottenham knows it needs more depth up front and sees the Spaniard as a long-term investment. Thomas Frank, meanwhile, is said to have approved the player’s profile and already given the green light for a potential move.
