Tottenham have won each of their last four meetings with Burnley, targeting five successive victories for the very first time. The Clarets' most recent win over Spurs in North London came in 1983, losing 12 of 13 subsequent visits to the capital.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Burnley preview

After a disappointing start to their campaign on Wednesday night, will Tottenham Hotspur make a winning start in the Premier League? In mid-week, proudly there are Europa League winners, Spurs took on Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup in Udine. It was Thomas Frank's first game in charge, and he looked set to enjoy the perfect start, with Spurs 2-0 up and seemingly cruising to silverware; centre-backs Micky van de Ven and then Cristian Romero both scoring set-piece goals either side of half time at Stadio Friuli. However, with five minutes to play, PSG halved the deficit, before snatching an equaliser right at the end of injury time, thereby forcing a penalty shootout.

Dominic Solanke and Rodrigo Bentancur both converted either side of PSG missing their first spot-kick, leaving Tottenham in a comanding position at that point. However, van de Ven saw his attempt saved, before Mathys Tel skewed his effort wide, meaning it was les Parisiens who picked up the trophy. Thus, an inauspicious start to his tenure for Frank, but he'll believe the genuinely serious business starts here, with Tottenham firm favourites to collect three points on the opening weekend.

Burnley meantime are back in the big time, collecting 100 in the Championship last time round, doing so in a single season for the first time ever. The Clarets have therefore been promoted or relegated in four successive seasons, so will that trend continue, having gone down with just 24 points to their name two years ago? Well, manager Scott Parker has proved himself to be something of a promotion specialist, now leading Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley to promotion, although he's won only nine of 52 Premier League fixtures as a manager to date, losing 30 and conceding 87 goals.

Thus, most make Burnley odds-on favourites for relegation this season, making next weekend's home opener against fellow newly-promoted outfit Sunderland a very early six-pointer. Here though, it would be a huge shock if the Clarets departed North London with anything to show for their efforts.

Tottenham Hotspur team news

Interestingly, considering it was his first match in charge, Thomas Frank deployed a back five against PSG. Nevertheless, this is a very different challenge, so surely he'll switch to a four for this one.

First and foremost, Tottenham are without Radu Drăgușin, Destiny Udogie, Dejan Kuluševski and James Maddison due to injury, the latter heartbreakingly rupturing his ACL during pre-season.

If Frank does go more attacking here, Kevin Danso is the most-likely defender to drop out, with Brennan Johnson or Dominic Solanke set to come into the forward line.

Tottenham Hotspur predicted lineup vs Burnley: (4-3-3): Vicario; Porro, van de Ven, Romero, Spence; Palhinha, Bentancur, Bergvall; Kudus, Richarlison, Johnson.
