Wolves have actually won six of their last 12 meetings with Aston Villa, losing only three. At Villa Park however, the Claret and Blue Army are seeking three successive victories over Wolverhampton Wanderers for the first time since 2003.

Aston Villa vs Wolves preview

Can Aston Villa continue their excellent form? On Thursday, the Villans won again, somewhat comfortably beating BSC Young Boys at home. When Donyell Malen bagged a first half brace, it looked like being a straight forward evening, only for the Swiss champions to pull one back towards the end, albeit the home side held on. This means Unai Emery's team have now won four out of five in this season's Europa League, including all three at home, thereby sat third in the gigantic table.

Meantime, the Claret and Blue Army are in excellent form in the Premier League too. Last Sunday, Emery's team fought back from a goal down to beat Leeds at Elland Road, with Morgan Rogers scoring a stupendous second half brace, the first an impudent near-post flick followed by a caressed free-kick. As a result, Aston Villa start the weekend fourth, having won six of their last seven in the league, beaten only at Anfield since August. Thus, a routine win at Villa Park is a very likely outcome.

Wolverhampton Wanderers meanwhile appear destine for the drop. Last weekend, Rob Edwards' first match in charge did little to improve their fortunes, this time beaten 2-0 by Crystal Palace, the two goals coming a mere six minutes apart at a miserable Molineux. That was Wolves' fifth successive defeat, conceding 13 goals and scoring just two across these matches.

In fact, Wolves are still yet to claim a victory all season, sat rock bottom of the table with just two points to their name, now nine points adrift safety. To conclude 2025, the Old Gold's remaining fixtures are Forest (H), Man United (H), Arsenal (A), Brentford (H), Liverpool (A) and Man United (A), so it is not clear where that illusive first victory will come from. Thus, a routine home win appears the most likely outcome, given that Wolves have shown little to suggest the contrary.

Rob Edwards did not change much in terms of personnel against Crystal Palace, deploying Tolu Arokodare alongside Jørgen Strand Larsen in attack, chosen over Hwang Hee-chan and Jhon Arias.

Wolves player to watch vs Aston Villa

Jørgen Strand Larsen scored 14 Premier League goals last season, but has just one to his name this time round, and they'll need the Norwegian to rediscover his best form, if they harbour any hopes of a great escape.

Aston Villa vs Wolves prediction

As alluded to throughout, we cannot see beyond a routine Aston Villa victory, partially due to their excellent form, but mainly because Wolves are terrible: Aston Villa 3-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers.
