Liverpool are unbeaten in nine meetings with West Ham, winning eight of them, scoring exactly five goals in three of their last four victories.

The Reds have also won six of nine visits to the London Stadium, their sole defeat in Stratford a 3-2 reverse back in November 2021.

West Ham vs Liverpool preview

Well, where on earth do Liverpool go from here? On Wednesday night, Arne Slot's side were beaten yet again, this time steamrollered 4-1 by PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League at Anfield. Following 3-0 defeats at the hands of Manchester City and then Nottingham Forest, the Reds have conceded three or more goals in three successive games for the first time since September 1992.

Overall, the Premier League champions have now lost nine of their last 12 matches across all competitions, their worst run since January 1954, actually relegated from the First Division back then, the club's most-recent relegation. While a repeat of that remains unlikely, Slot's side have slipped all the way down to 12th, closer to the bottom three than leaders Arsenal. Every week we assume that Liverpool will get back to winning ways, but they surely won't lose this one, will they?

Well, West Ham United themselves had a firm grip on the crisis club baton up until recently, but are showing signs of life. Before the international break, Nuno Espírito Santo's side claimed crucial back-to-back home wins, beating both Newcastle and Burnley, with Tomáš Souček on target in both. Prior to this, the West Ham faithful had not witnessed a home win since February.

Then, last weekend, the Hammers raced into a 2-0 lead in the pouring rain at Dean Court, Callum Wilson at the double, only for Bournemouth to fight back after the interval. In the second 45, the Cherries had 21 shots, created four big chances and accumulated and xG figure of 3.49, forcing Alphonse Areola into seven saves, making ten in total, meaning the Irons were probably quite relived to depart with a 2-2 draw, despite having led by two. This point sees West Ham climb out of the bottom three, so can they now become the latest side to defeat this beleaguered Liverpool?

Nuno Espírito Santo switched to a back three last weekend, featuring Igor Julio who started in the Premier League for the club for the first time, so will he keep his place?

Luís Guilherme was the other surprise starter at Dean Court, while fit again Niclas Füllkrug came off the bench, so will Nuno stick with this system?

West Ham United predicted lineup vs Liverpool: (5-2-3): Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Igor, Todibo, Kilman, Diouf; Potts, Fernandes; Bowen, Paquetá, Wilson.

West Ham player to watch vs Liverpool

Jarrod Bowen, as always, is West Ham's most dangerous attacker, so can he add to his three career goals against Liverpool, all of which came in the 2023/24 season?

Liverpool team news

Arne Slot meantime remains without Giovanni Leoni, Jeremie Frimpong, Conor Bradley and Florian Wirtz, limiting his options as he seeks a winning formula.

In attack is where he does have a decision to make, with Hugo Ekitiké getting the nod on Wednesday, after Alexander Isak was pretty anonymous against Nottingham Forest, so who will lead the line here?

Goalkeeper Alisson missed the PSV defeat due to illness, but should return in place of Giorgi Mamardashvili. At the back, after another shambolic display by Ibrahima Konaté, could Joe Gomez or Andy Robertson come into defence? Lastly, emergency right-back Dominik Szoboszlai would sit out Wednesday's clash with Sunderland if booked.

Liverpool predicted lineup vs West Ham United: (4-3-3): Alisson; Szoboszlai, Konaté, van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Jones; Salah, Ekitiké, Gakpo.

Mohamed Salah has scored 13 times against West Ham to date, six of which have come at the London Stadium, so can teh Egyptian now score for the first time since 1 November?

Liverpool matches are frankly impossible to predict right now, but we are booking the Reds to hae too much quality for West Ham, albeit that may be a fool's errand: West Ham United 1-2 Liverpool.
