West Ham have won only one of their last eight meetings with Tottenham, while their last three encounters in East London have all produced draws; Spurs' most-recent victory at the London Stadium came in November 2019 in José Mourinho's first match in charge.

West Ham vs Tottenham preview

After a mixed start to the season, can Tottenham Hotspur bounce back when they face their fierce local rivals on Saturday evening? After two Premier League games, Thomas Frank was being heralded as a genius, given that Spurs demolished Burnley 3-0 at home, before a commanding 2-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad; Brennan Johnson and João Palhinha the scorers.

However, Tottenham came crashing back down to earth before the international break, beaten 1-0 by Bournemouth in North London. Spurs are actually flattered by that scoreline, considering they ended the afternoon with just five shots, of which only one was on target, compared to the Cherries' 20 shots, six finding the target. Consistency was always going to be the biggest challenge for Frank, but he'll need to find some soon, with Villarreal visiting in the Champions League on Tuesday, before a trip to Brighton next weekend. So, will Tottenham get back to winning ways here?

As for West Ham United, well, the complete opposite trajectory. It was all doom and gloom after two Premier League games, given that Graham Potter's team were steamrollered 3-0 by Sunderland at the Stadium of light and then demolished 5-1 by Chelsea at home, conceding all five goals during a 43 minute spree either side of the interval. The Irons were then dumped out of the EFL Cup by Wolves, conceding twice in the final eight minutes at Molineux, having been in front.

Thus, many were forecasting that Potter could be given the boot during the international break, only for the Hammers to pull an extraordinary victory out of nowhere. Last time out, West Ham beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 at the City Ground, a result surely no one saw coming, with Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paquetá and Callum Wilson all on target after the 84th minute at the City Ground. This is just the second time in Premier League history that West Ham have scored thrice in under six minutes, memorably doing so to snatch a 3-3 draw at Tottenham during lockdown. So, can this London derby spark the Irons' season into life, or will their supporters suffer a reality check come Saturday night?

West Ham vs Tottenham head-to-head record

West Ham team news

West Ham were busy during the final days of the transfer market, signing both midfielder Soungoutou Magassa from Monaco and centre-back Igor Julio from Brighton, so will either debut here?

Matheus Fernandes made his own debut against Nottingham Forest, but substitute Crysencio Summerville was the real game-changer, making his first appearance since Potter's first match in charge on 10 January due to a hamstring injury, playing an instrumental role in the win off the bench, so will he start this time?

Elsewhere, charades-style, Lucas Paquetá announced that he was stying through the medium of mime during his goal celebration at the City Ground. He'll start again, with Potter set to stick with the back four, having deployed a three during their first three games of the season, losing all three.

West Ham United predicted lineup vs Tottenham Hotspur: (4-2-3-1): Hermansen; Wan-Bissaka, Mavropanos, Kilman, Diouf; Ward-Prowse, Magassa, Bowen, Paquetá; Summerville, Wilson.

West Ham player to watch vs Tottenham

Jarrod Bowen scored his 57th Premier League goal for West Ham a fortnight ago, now just 11 behind Michail Antonio's club record. He was on target when Tottenham visited the London Stadium back in May, so can he repeat the feat?

Tottenham team news

Radu Drăgușin, Yves Bissouma, Dejan Kuluševski and James Maddison remain sidelined, but Destiny Udogie came off the bench against Bournemouth, his first appearance of the season due to a knee injury. However, the form of now full-England international Djed Spence will keep him in reserve.

Meantime, after being presented on the pitch a fortnight ago, Spurs fans will be hoping to see a debut from Xavi Simons, who has joined from RB Leipzig for £51.8 million, adding much needed creativity.

In attack, Richarlison has started all four Spurs matches this season, but did play an hour for Brazil against Bolivia in the early hours of Wednesday morning, the match taking place in El Alto which is 4,150 meters above sea level, so it remains to be seen if he's in good condition to start here too.

Tottenham Hotspur predicted lineup vs West Ham United: (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Porro, van de Ven, Romero, Spence; Palhinha, Matar Sarr, Kudus, Simons, Johnson; Solanke.

Tottenham player to watch vs West Ham

Mohammed Kudus is unlikely to receive a warm welcome back to the London Stadium, having become the first player to make the controversial move from West Ham to Spurs for 14 years. He was sent off against Tottenham last season, so can he haunt his former team this time?

West Ham vs Tottenham prediction

Despite their show of defiance in Nottingham, we still believe West Ham lack quality, so are forecasting a Spurs victory, albeit goals should be guaranteed: West Ham 1-3 Tottenham Hotspur.
