What happened at Wolverhampton Wanderers last season?

Last season was very much a campaign of two halves for Wolverhampton Wanderers. When Gary O'Neil was sacked on 15 December, the Old Gold found themselves entrenched in the relegation zone, having lost 11 of 16 matches, thereby in serious danger of relegation.

However, the appointment of Vítor Pereira would prove to be a masterstroke, considering he won ten of his 22 Premier League matches in charge, including a sequence of six successive victories, Wolves' longest streak in the top division since October 1970. First the points, then the pints became Pereira's abiding message, but will Wolves collect enough of the former to survive again this year?

How will Wolverhampton Wanderers do this season?

We're forecasting a very tough season for Wolverhampton Wanderers, one that could result in relegation. Arguably, their best two players have been sold once again, namely Matheus Cunha and Rayan Aït-Nouri. David Møller Wolfe has joined from AZ Alkmaar to replace the latter at left-back; nominative determinism in action right there. Meantime, striker Jhon Arias has arrived from Fluminense and will need to hit the ground running, considering Cunha scored 17 goals last season.

This summer has merely been a continuation of a trend which has seen Wolves sell their best players; Max Kilman and Pedro Neto departed last summer, with Rúben Neves and Matheus Nunes sold the year before. This'll surely come back to bite them eventually and, with newly-promoted Leeds and Sunderland looking strong, if any of the existing 17 are going to suffer relegation, we believe Wolves are prime candidates. To go all cliché, you fear for them, you really do.
