Zambia have never lost to Comoros, winning four of five previous encounters, including a 2-1 victory in Lusaka during 2024 AFCON qualifying, albeit their most-recent clash, coming in the same campaign, produced a 1-1 draw in Moroni.

Zambia vs Comoros preview

Can either of these two teams claim their first victory at this Africa Cup of Nations? Comoros were involved in the tournament opener last Sunday and, at one stage, it appeared as though they were going to spoil Morocco's party. Early in the first half, Soufiane Rahimi's tame penalty was saved by Yannick Pandor, stunning the newly-built Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah into silence. Nevertheless, Morocco did score twice after the interval, thereby securing the points in Rabāṭ.

This is only Comoros' second Africa Cup of Nations appearance, a remarkable achievement considering that their population is around 850,000; of CAF's 54 members, only Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe and Seychelles are smaller. On debut in 2022, the Coelacanths dramatically beat Ghana in their final group game, before a narrow 2-1 defeat to hosts Cameroon in the round of 16, despite having to field left-back Chaker Alhadhur in goal. At this edition, if Stefano Cusin's side harbour any hopes of reaching the knockout stages again, this clash might be must win.

As for Zambia, they do have a point on the board after matchday one, earning it in dramatic fashion. Seemingly set for defeat against Mali in Casablanca, falling behind on the hour mark, Patson Daka's stoppage time header salvaged a draw; his finish better executed than the back-flip celebration.

The Copper Bullets famously won this competition in 2012, defeating Côte d'Ivoire in the final on penalties, completing one of the biggest upsets in African football history. However, since then, Zambia have not won a single AFCON match, with Monday their tenth attempt to do so, thereby exiting in the group stages on all three occasions. Here, can Moses Sichone's team end Zambia's wait for that illusive victory, or will Comoros upset the odds at Stade Mohammed V?

Moses Sichone is not expected to make many changes to his lineup ahead of this one, featuring Miguel Chaiwa of Hibernain at the base of midfield.

In attack through is where the Copper Bullets' talent is, with star forward Kings Kangwa and captain Fashion Sakala, formerlly of Rangers, supporting Zambia's danger man.

Zambia predicted lineup vs Comoros: (4-3-3): Mwanza; M Banda, Sakala, Chanda, Musonda; Tembo, Chaiwa, L Banda; Kangwa, Sakala, Daka.

Patson Daka's injury time equaliser on Monday takes his tally to 22 goals for Zambia, still a long way shy of Godfrey Chitalu's all-time record of 79 set 45 years ago, but will the Leicester City striker be their hero here too?

Comoros team news

Stefano Cusin's team too put in a spirited display in their opener, so how much will he tinker?

This would see El Fardou Ben Nabouhane, the top-scorer in the squad, once again left on the bench, with Benjaloud Youssouf deployed as part of the front three.

Comoros predicted lineup vs Zambia: (4-4-1-1): Pandor, Toibibou, Soilihi, Kari, Boura; Z Youssouf, Mohamed, B Youssouf, Selemani; M'Changama, Saïd.

Comoros player to watch vs Zambia

Rafiki Saïd has scored three Jupiler Pro League goals for Standard Liège this season, while he has bagged eight in 18 outings for Comoros, so will his scoring spree continue in Casablanca?

This Boxing Day clash at Stade Mohammed V promises to be entertaining, but we are backing Zambia to pick up all three points, given the array of attacking talent they have: Zambia 2-1 Comoros.
