Morocco have won each of their last five encounters with Zambia, as well as nine of their last 12 meetings overall.

Zambia vs Morocco preview

After seeing their winning streak come to an end on Friday night, will Morocco rubber stamp top spot in Group A? In the tournament opener, the hosts beat Comoros 2-0. After Soufiane Rahimi had a tame spot-kick saved, Brahim Díaz broke the deadlock before Ayoub El Kaabi scored a spectacular overhead kick. This made it 19 successive international victories for the Atlas Lions, a new world record. However, on Boxing Day, Walid Regragui's side could not make it two wins out of two, held to a 1-1 draw by Mali, with Brahim converting a spot-kick deep into first half injury time, only for the Eagles to hit back with a penalty of their own.

Having reached the semi-finals at the World Cup three years ago, the first-ever African side to achieve this, Morocco are under enormous pressure to win this competition on home soil. Having said that, their recent Cup of Nations record is actually pretty underwhelming, getting no further than the quarter-finals since being runners-up in 2004. At last year's edition, they were dumped out by South Africa in the round of 16 in San Pédro, expected to do much better this time. So, will Morocco claim the win they need at Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah to cement first place in Group A?

Zambia too require a result if they're to make it through to the knockout stages. The Copper Bullets have drawn both matches at this tournament thus far, first requiring a stoppage time equaliser from Patson Daka to salvage a share of the spoils against Mali. Then, on Boxing Day, Moses Sichone's side played out a goalless draw with Comoros in Casablanca that does not really help either side.

Back in 2012, Zambia famously won the Africa Cup of Nations, the biggest upset in the tournament's 69 year history, defeating Côte d'Ivoire on penalties in Libreville. However, since then, the Copper Bullets have not won a single match at the tournament, exiting in the group stages on all three occasions. Well, that trend is currently set to continue, unless they can cause a massive upset and defeat the hosts and competition favourites Morocco in Rabāṭ on Monday night.

Zambia team news

Moses Sichone made just one change to his startling lineup against Comoros, with Hiberenian midfielder Miguel Chaiwa replaced by David Simukonda after picking up an injury.

In attack, former Rangers forward Fashion Sakala will captain his country, looking to add to his 11 international goals.

Zambia predicted lineup vs Morocco: (4-3-3): Mwanza; M Banda, B Sakala, Chanda, Musonda; Tembo, Kangwa, Simukonda; L Banda, Sakala, Daka.

Despite his struggles at club level, Patson Daka remains Zambia's main man for goals, bagging his 22nd for the Copper Bullets against Mali a week ago, so can he fire them to a famous win?

Morocco team news

Walid Regragui may have been planning to heavily rotate for this one, but his side do need a result, so few changes are expected.

Achraf Hakimi is still yet to feature at this tournament, after suffering a sprained ankle in early-November, while Jawad El Yamiq displaced Romain Saïss in the heart of defence on Friday.

After scoring a spectacular bicycle kick against Comoros, Ayoub El Kaabi lead the line three nights ago, but Youssef En-Nesyri or Soufiane Rahimi could get the nod this time.

Morocco predicted lineup vs Zambia: (4-3-3): Bounou; Mazraoui, Aguerd, El Yamiq, Salah-Eddine; Amrabat, Ounahi, El Aynaoui; Brahim, Saibari, En-Nesyri.

Brahim Díaz has scored in both AFCON games so far, and his recruitment has added a different dimension to this team, so will the Real Madrid midfield star again?

Zambia vs Morocco prediction

We are backing Morocco for victory at Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabāṭ on Monday, a result that will see the Atlas Lions claim top spot and send Zambia crashing out: Zambia 0-2 Morocco.
