Soccer is in a transition period in the United States. What once was obscure is now common. What once was trendy is now hip.
10 years ago when I was in High School, I thought I was really something when I wore soccer jerseys to school. No one else was doing it and I felt unique and special. Fast forward to today and I look across my office here at work and see a girl wearing a Manchester United jersey. I go for a walk with my wife and see a man in a Chelsea hoodie. I’m out grocery shopping and a little boy is wearing a Liverpool shirt.

You no longer stand out as different when you wear EPL gear. To steal a line from the one and only Tyronne Biggums, “[Soccer] is all around you.” So just in case you are late to the party, here is chance for you to get caught up on the soccer phenomenon.

Let’s start off with this vanity license plate from Mississippi with the letters “EPL”. I don’t know the driving laws in Mississippi but maybe you can put this on your car, but more likely it will make a nice display in your man cave or at your office at work. Nothing says you’re a bigger fan than being the first person in your state to get that specific license plate. The problem is that if you don’t live in Mississippi, this is pretty much useless. Next we have a Manchester United “Survival Bracelet”. I have no clue what a survival bracelet is. I guess I could google it, but that just sounds like a waste of my time. When you buy this bracelet, you are more than likely sending $10.00 to some kid who made a nice bracelet as a fund raiser for his Cub Scout troop. So if you are either a fan of Manchester United or just a fan of surviving, this is a must have for you.

If you watch enough soccer, sooner or later you will come to the simple conclusion that people score goals and space has yet to put a ball in the net. Yet when it comes to set pieces, several team still insist on zonal defending. As a kid, there were few things I loved more than sports cards. Basketball, football, and baseball, I loved to collect cards. I would save my allowance and go with my mom to the sports cards store. I would sometimes buy just one card or play the nine-year old’s version of roulette and buy a pack of cards and risk getting nothing but junk. But I never owned a single soccer card.
Well for those of you who were similar to me, now is time to atone for our mistakes.
