All the Brazilians that were signed in order to play in the NWSL have been essentially recalled by their federation. Brazil recently confirmed that they would be entering an 18-month residency camp to prepare for the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada and the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The plans were originally announced back in December, but the release of the proposed camp roster prompted teams to take seriously Brazil’s decision to (finally) invest in their national women’s team.

Chief among those teams who were dependent upon the infusion of Brazilian energy into the NWSL were the Boston Breakers. With Andressa Alves and Francielle set to take part in the “professional kidnapping,” the Massachusetts club has instead picked up Rafaela and Beatriz, two highly capable players part of the Brazilian national team pool but who will not be taking part in the residency camp. Check out our own Scott Sinclair’s take on the Brazilian duo.
