2015 MLS All-Stars to Host Tottenham Hotspur
By Phil Naegely
The 2015 MLS All-Stars will host EPL side Tottenham Hotspur at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, home of the Colorado Rapids in July. Last year, Bayern Munich traveled to Portland to face the MLS All-Stars in 2014. This will be the eighth EPL side to face the MLS All-Stars since 2005.
This will be the Hotspurs’ only preseason event within the United States as the prepare for the 2015-16 EPL season. This shows how much the Hotspurs respect the MLS brand when it comes to the quality of soccer being played.
"“We’d like to thank Major League Soccer for the invitation to take part in the 2015 All-Star Game,” said Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino. “The fact that this will be our only fixture outside of Europe during pre-season says a lot about how we view this game. We enjoyed three tough matches last summer in North America and the quality of football in MLS continues to grow every year. Preseason is an important time for us and we are looking forward to being a part of one of the biggest events on the U.S. football calendar. We know the quality of the facilities will be top-class and we see this fixture against the best players from MLS as good preparation.”"

Denver becomes the fourth city to host the MLS All-Star Game for the 2nd time. Per the league’s press release, Denver joins the “now-defunct Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C., and MLS’ first soccer-specific stadium, newly donned MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, have hosted the event more than once.”
It’s an exciting time for the Denver area to host another MLS All-Star Game and other events during the week leading up to the mid-season event. The game and other events will also be a boost to the local economy.
“We are delighted to welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park for the MLS All-Star Game. They are one of the more acclaimed names in the English Premier League and have a roster full of top-quality international players. We know their presence will help create an exciting and entertaining contest in Colorado this summer,” said Colorado Rapids Governor Jim Martin.
With it being their only US-based preseason event, Tottenham Hotspurs will most likely bring their top players. This is good to the MLS All-Stars as they look to showcase their skills and ability. While the MLS All-Stars have been defeated in the past and by large margins at times, but it’s still great to see the best MLS players take on quality European sides.
For now, the All-Star Game is still three months away and after the much-anticipated 2015 Women’s World Cup and 2015 Gold Cup, but MLS fans now know who their beloved players will play.
