GK Gianluigi Buffon, Juventus
It’s quite incredible to think just how good and consistent Buffon has been throughout his career, and he was good enough in this year’s Champions League to help lead his team to the final and earn a spot on our “Team of the Tournament” over standouts such as Joe Hart, Manuel Neuer, Thibaut Courtois, and the underrated Danijel Subasic.
Buffon rarely makes a mistake in goal, which is why his “spill” that led to Suarez’s decisive goal on Saturday night was just a surprise to see, but he was the one who gave Juventus a chance with his wonder save on a stinging first-time effort from Barcelona right back Dani Alves. And even though he made an uncharacteristically poor pass that gifted Barca with a good opportunity, Buffon’s distribution is among the best in world football.
