Copa America 2015: 10 best starlets you need to know
Brazil CM Fred, Shakhtar Donetsk (22)
Brazil will still be taking a Fred to the Copa America, but instead of a maligned striker, they will have one of the most promising central midfielders in Europe as a backup in the middle of the park. Frederico Rodrigues Santos netted just one goal this past season for Shakhtar Donetsk in the Ukranian Premier League, but he did look good in three Champions League appearances by showing a nice range of passing and skill on the ball.
It’s unlikely we’ll see much of anything from Fred in this tournament, but he is a young player worth monitoring due to his talent. His star is rising, and while he’s more of an attacking midfielder, he also showed in brief spells during Shakhtar’s CL run that he can capably defend. Fred’s upside is clearly present, so don’t sleep on the speedy and talented midfielder.
