Playing for 90’s transfer gossip column brings you all the latest news and rumours of ins and outs from the Premier League and abroad, including news on the future of Sunderland’s midfield.
Yann M’Vila and Leroy Fer set to add muscle to Sunderland’s midfield
According to Guardian Football are to become the bedrock of Sunderland’s new steely midfield. M’Vila is scheduled to have a medical in the north-east on Monday before completing a move from Rubin Kazan.
Fer is expected to arrive on a season’s loan from Queens Park Rangers. Despite suffering successive relegations from the Premier League with first Norwich and then QPR, the 25-year-old Holland international is highly rated and impressed against Sunderland last season. With the Loftus Road club anxious to cut a hefty wage bill Fer – who cost them £8m a year ago – has become available and Advocaat is at the front of the queue to complete a temporary transfer.
Sunderland meanwhile remain very much in the hunt for a proven goalscorer to replace the Crystal Palace-bound Connor Wickham. That striker is unlikely to be Moussa Sow after the club distanced themselves from reports suggesting they were pursuing the Fenerbahce forward. With a move for Blackburn’s Jordan Rhodes similarly unlikely it seems Advocaat will start the season reliant on Jermain Defoe, Steven Fletcher and Danny Graham in attack.

Man United winger Ashley Young offered new three-year deal
According to the Daily Star Ashley Young has been offered a three-year deal to remain at Manchester United. The terms are believed to be similar to his current £120k-a-week deal which has only a year to run.
The England international was a Tottenham target this summer and has also been linked with a move to Liverpool for £8million.But Young now looks set to commit himself to Old Trafford.
The new contract offer is a reward for his form last season, which impressed manager Louis van Gaal. Young’s performances have established him in LVG’s plans for this season – and beyond.
They were also a factor in United’s decision to set up the £44million sale of another winger – Angel Di Maria – to PSG. But Van Gaal has been warned he needs to sign one more centre-back. The Old Trafford boss is considering using Daley Blind in defence this season after failing to snare Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid.
Tottenham ready to take huge loss on Roberto Soldado
According to the Daily Mirror Tottenham are ready to accept £11million for Roberto Soldado and have opened talks with Villarreal over a deal. Spurs are preparing to take a huge hit on the strike flop Soldado who they bought for £26million from Valencia two years ago.
The 30 year-old, who has also attracted interest from Sevilla and Benfica, has endured a miserable time in England, scoring just seven goals in two seasons. Villarreal initially hoped to bring him back to Spain on loan but Spurs want to continue their clearout by offloading him permanently.
If Soldado leaves he will be the fourth player who was bought in the wake of Gareth Bale’s move to Real Madrid but has been moved on this summer. Paulinho, Etienne Capoue and Vlad Chiriches have already been sold.
Reds to make £14.9m bid for Denis Cheryshev
Liverpool are determined to sign Real Madrid’s Denis Cheryshev and are readying a £14.9m bid to land the left winger.According to reports in Spain, Liverpool’s bid matches Real’s valuation of the Russian international and could be willing to part with the 24-year-old.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Cheryshev all summer and are in need of strengthening their midfield options following the sale of Raheem Sterling.
The report goes on to say that Liverpool could be willing to include a buy-back clause in the deal to help the transfer over the line. Cheryshev spent last season on loan at Villarreal where he made 26 La Liga appearances.
Villarreal coach Marcelino was looking to keep the 24-year-old for the upcoming campaign, but the player admitted last month he was unsure over his future.
“I have no idea as to what is going to happen,” he said. “I’ve spoken to Marcelino and he confirmed that Villarreal hope to have my services next season but that’s all.
