Gary Neville’s appointment as manager of Valencia came as a surprise to all of us, but we never expected what was to come next.

Yet another game has gone by for Valencia and Neville and another loss was recorded as they was beaten at home to Sporting Gijon. It is very clear to everyone that Neville is having a hard time at Valencia, as he is yet to record a league win during his time there.

Although he has managed some good performances now and again he is struggling to pick up the vital points that are needed. They are currently sitting 12th in La Liga and Gary Neville will hope his luck changes sooner rather than later. But the question is, What has gone so wrong for him during his time in La Liga?

Gary Neville is a huge name in the footballing world after his time at Manchester United and his England career. Since retiring, Neville has been working with Sky Sports as a pundit and commentator where he has built up a reputation as one of the best pundits in football. His analysis of the game is brilliant and millions would tune in on a Monday night to listen to him analyse different aspects of teams’ performances.

This all led to a lot of popularity for Neville that he may never of had during his playing career. So when Valencia come knocking everyone was completely shocked, but he went with high expectations due to his great knowledge of the game. Any manager’s first job is always tough but Neville’s first was considerably harder due to taking over a struggling Valencia side. They are, after all, one of Spain’s biggest clubs.

The weight of expectation he brought to the club might have had a negative affect on him and the pressure is starting to show as he is yet to win in the league. Overall it has been a very poor season for Valencia and Gary Neville is starting to get some of the blame by the fans, who are beginning to become angry by the lack of wins.

Gary Neville took on a very tough job at Valencia and was immediately being linked as the next England manager, this was due to everyone being so sure he would be an instant success. However with this not being the case, I have personally seen more negatives about Neville than positives since he has started at Valencia.

I feel that Neville has what it takes to be a success at Valencia and he just needs time to adapt in La Liga and as a manager. With his knowledge of the game he should be able to turn it around at Valencia and show La Liga what English managers are capable of.
