3. Massimiliano Allegri’s substitutions backfired on him

In a night where Thiago and Kingsley Coman, both after being subbed on, stole the show in extra time for Bayern Munich, Juventus’ subs were nowhere to be found on the pitch.

More from Champions League

Both Mario Mandzukic and Roberto Pereyra, who both came on before extra time, failed to make a huge impact on the game when they entered. Mandzukic failed to hold the ball up and create any attacking chances while Pereyra failed to give offensive support in the final third. It was especially disappointing to see them underperform considering that Juventus had subbed off Alvaro Morata and Juan Cuadrado, who both had great games, in place for both of those two guys.

Stefano Sturaro also failed to make a huge impact on the game as his biggest play of the night was shooting a potential lifeline in a goal for Juve way over the bar. After coming on and scoring the equalizer for Juventus in the first leg, the midfielder failed to show the same type of energy and seemed to force things in the midfield. But the miss was a total blunder.

On a night where he needed them the most, Massimiliano Allegri’s subs totally backfired on him and was a main reason why Juve fell in extra time.
