Tottenham’s ideal transfer purchase revealed
Tottenham need to purchase quality, not quantity this summer, and Bundesliga star Mahmoud Dahoud would be the perfect quality signing
Tottenham don’t need to add much this summer to bolster the squad in advance of Champions League football next season, but they will need to add a few high-quality signings. Stealing Mahmoud Dahoud away from Borussia Monchengladbach would be the perfect Spurs transfer purchase.
Prying the midfield starlet away from the Bundesliga club won’t be easy, but reports from Germany indicate that Tottenham are ready to launch a bid in excess of 27 million pounds to make deal happen. It’s believed that Tottenham would also have to stave off the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United to secure Dahoud’s services.
No matter how difficult acquiring the Syrian midfielder might be, Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino should do everything in their power to bring the player to White Hart Lane. He is the perfect type of talent, at the perfect age, at the perfect position to provide a very positive impact on Tottenham next season.

At the tender age of 20, Dahoud is already playing at an extremely high level in the Bundesliga. His Whoscored.com player rating of 7.13 in 27 league appearances ranks fifth at the club. He’s been a terrific engine in the center of the pitch for Borussia M. as well. He’s contributed four goals and an impressive seven assists on the campaign. He’s exactly the type of high-energy midfielder who can hurt the opposition from deep that thrives under Pochettino.
Tottenham fans might also be interested to know that his performance is only slightly behind Arsenal target Granit Xhaka. Dahoud is also three years younger than his Swiss teammate who could very well end up in North London this summer.
Clearly Pochettino has prioritized acquiring young talent during his time at Tottenham, and adding Dahoud would only further that philosophy. He would represent a more expensive buy than many of the club’s recent purchases, but the stakes are higher with Champions League football on the horizon.
Dahoud could serve to provide the club support in any of the five midfield spots on the pitch. In particular, he would immediately strengthen the defensive midfield rotation that currently drops off sharply in the absence of either Eric Dier or Mousa Dembele. Dahoud would provide Pochettino with a significantly better option off the bench than he currently enjoys with the likes of Ryan Mason and Tom Carroll.
More importantly, Dahoud would come in as the obvious heir-apparent for Dembele. The Belgian star isn’t old by any stretch of the imagination, but Pochettino’s system requires maximum fitness. Dembele has been injury prone during his time at Tottenham, which only heightens the need to purchase adequate cover for him this summer.
