5. Xavi Hernandez

Xavi has already received his farewell as he took his last stand with Barcelona not too long ago. He’s the last player in recent times to receive the attention and ovation for his efforts in Barcelona and the Spanish national team.

Messi should be thankful for having such a great playmaker sitting right behind him in Barca’s formation. Xavi played with the Catalonian side from 1998-2015 making 505 appearances. In that time he scored 58 goals while tallying up assist after assist in La Liga and international competitions.

His individual awards are staggering earning UEFA Euro 2008 Player of the Tournament, UEFA Club Midfielder of the Year 08-09 and many many more. Xavi was deserving a year ago and is even so today.
