FC Schalke 04

Finished: 5th in Bundesliga with 52 points

Schalke finished just three points shy of getting into the Champions League, but still managed to make the Europa League group stages for next season. Schalke was again led by their talisman and main striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar this season in the goal department. Huntelaar netted 12 goals in the Bundesliga this season, and 16 in all competitions for the club. The team also competed in the Europa League last year, not losing a single match in the group stages. Sadly, they were knocked out in the round of 32 by Shakhtar Donetsk, losing 3-0 on aggregate.

Their season started off well in the Bundesliga, winning 6 of their first 9 matches to start the year. An inconsistent season hurt the club, though, and even a win on the final day of the season was not enough for the team to get back into Champions League football. Their last Champions League match was one to remember, beating Real Madrid 4-3 in a thrilling match back in 2015. They ultimately lost on goal differential, but the club will be eager to return to those days of competition.
