Harry Kane is expected to sign an extension worth £100,000 a week, but is he worth it?

The latest coming out of White Hart Lane has their top man Harry Kane signing a new contract extension. This would be the striker’s 3rd contract in since arriving to the first team, with the last penning just this past February.

Kane, the Premier League’s golden boot winner last year, is set to earn £100,000 salary making him the highest paid player on the young Tottenham squad. The five-year deal will see him committed to the club until 2021.

More from Premier League

While the deal doesn’t come close to cracking the top 10 in the Premier League, it does speak volumes for Hurrikane. It wasn’t too long ago Kane was putting on mediocre displays during his loan spells with Millwall, Norwich, and Leicester. There are few who could have predicted the rapid rise to stardom. Many people called Harry Kane a one year wonder, to which, he responded by posting the most goals in the EPL.

There are critics of Harry, and not all of them Arsenal fans. Kane was a virtual no-show during the Euros this summer and his competition can be culminated in just one kick. The only consolation for Harry is none of his teammates showed any semblance of decent form; except for maybe Eric Dier and Kyle Walker. Hodgson just didn’t know how to properly utilize any of Kane’s talents.

One game you would find Harry on the right-wing, and another he’d be taking corner kicks to 5’7” Raheem Sterling. None of Roy’s bizarre tactics paid off and it showed on the pitch. Even in winning matches, England looked confused and out of position.

What people may not know about Harry is that he feeds on criticism. After his 2014-15 campaign which saw him net 21 goals, there were a lot of pundits who said he was a ‘one year wonder’.  Harry has said he used that criticism as fuel in his 25 goal campaign. Harry Kane told the Guardian:

"“There was a lot of talk at the start of the season,” Kane said. “It fuelled the fire in my belly to want to prove them wrong and I’ve gone and done that. It doesn’t stop here for me. It’s not a case of: ‘OK, I’m happy where I am’. I want to go and get more goals, create my chances for the team and do my best for Tottenham Hotspur.”"

It did not stop with the pundits. When EA Sports put out their rankings for FIFA16, they had Harry Kane rated at 77. Kane immediately took to twitter to show his disappointment. After his 25 goals? FIFA put him up to an 83 rating.

Harry Kane is absolutely worth the money. In back to back campaigns he has proven to be one of the most prolific strikers in the EPL. Tottenham have been working hard to put down any potential offers for their man. Getting this deal signed quickly would go a long way to show that. Spurs are also looking to invest in a second striking option in Vincent Janssen, who is expected to sign with the North London club sometime this week.
