Signing Lille attacker Sofiane Boufal would be the perfect completion of Tottenham’s summer transfer window

Tottenham are off to an excellent star in the summer transfer window with the signings of Victor Wanyama, Vincent Janssen and (soon) Georges-Kevin N’koudou. If Mauricio Pochettino can lure Lille attacker Sofiane Boufal to White Hart Lane it might be one of the best summers for Spurs in recent memory.

Curiously, Spurs have been hesitant to make a decisive move for the Moroccan attacker. Instead, Pochettino and company have been content to sit on the sideline and watch Watford set the market for the dynamic attacker. Now, it’s time for Tottenham to swoop in and steal the attacking star away from the Hornets.

It’s pretty clear at this point in the transfer window that Spurs one remaining need is to find an attacking midfielder capable of providing cover, and playing alongside Christian Eriksen. The addition of N’koudou will give Tottenham options on the wing, but they still need another player who can play all three positions in their attacking midfield.

Boufal is certainly a star who fits that description. He excelled for Lille last season playing in multiple spots across the front of the Ligue 1 club’s attack. His performance last year was nothing short of exceptional. He racked up 11 goals and four assists in 29 league appearances and posted an impressive Whoscored.com player rating average of 7.56 on the campaign. To put it mildly, he was a nightmare for French defenders.

Tottenham could certainly use a player of his style and quality. He is a very direct player who isn’t afraid to take on opposing defenders via the dribble anywhere on the pitch. Interestingly, he’s also an exceptional finisher with both his head and feet. He’s a true goal scoring threat that has to be accounted for at all times.

His presence at Spurs could unlock acres of space for the rest of the club’s attack. Players like Dele Alli and Eriksen would find a lot more room in the middle of the pitch with a true goal threat like Boufal prowling the wings. If, on the other hand, Boufal was playing as a number ten, it would greatly increase the ability of Spurs’ wide players to play dangerous balls into the box.

Fortunately for Tottenham, Boufal also isn’t the type of player that would shatter the team’s transfer budget or wage structure. Watford’s bid of just 18 million pounds is being serious considered by Lille so it’s safe to say that a bid of 20 million pounds would stand a strong chance of being accepted. Purchasing a top-flight attacker for that price would be another piece of shrewd transfer business by Tottenham this summer.

Tottenham’s search for another attacking midfielder need go no further than Lille. Sofiane Boufal would be the perfect finish to Tottenham’s strong summer transfer window.
