Reason #1 Silverware!

Yes, without having to worry about staying up in the Premier League Newcastle can actually try to win trophies. The first and most important one is the Sky Bet Championship. The last time that Newcastle was in the old second division they won the title and won it quite handily, besting West Bromwich Albion by 11 points for first in 2009-2010.

While another first place showing in the Sky Bet Championship would be nice, Magpies supporters will gladly just take promotion if it means a chance to win the FA Cup. Winning the League Cup would certainly put a few smiles on supporter’s faces, but it is a trophy whose importance has waned in recent years. The true glory is in capturing the FA Cup, a title that Newcastle United have not won since 1955.

For Newcastle there are no excuses for not trying to put a quality side for cup competitions. If the Magpies are to keep supporters happy management will need to make serious effort in trying at winning the FA, the League Cup, and the Sky Bet Championship. Victory in all three is likely not to happen but at least getting one would help satiate the thirst for trophies among the Toon Army.
