5. Several Spurs are clearly for sale

Tottenham fans who own Nacer Chadli and Tom Carroll kits might want to start planning a new purchase. Neither player seems to have a long-term future at White Hart Lane.

More from Playing for 90

Neither man was a member of the Spurs’ bench for the Everton match. That’s a very clear indication that neither figures into Pochettino’s plans for the season. Instead, youngsters like Harry Winks and Josh Onomah seem to have infiltrated the first team squad.

Chadli’s omission wasn’t a great surprise. The Belgian has been prominently linked with Dortmund and Swansea in this summer’s transfer window. If Daniel Levy receives a sufficient bid, he’ll be on the first train leaving White Hart Lane.

In contrast, I was surprised to see Carroll left out of the matchday squad. I’m happy that Pochettino seems to have realized that he isn’t good enough to cut it at Spurs, but I wasn’t sure he shared my sentiment. Carroll has long been a cult hero for Spurs fans, but he’ll likely be with another Premier League club sooner rather than later.
