Almost every Premier League team were active this summer transfer window trying to bolster their squad for the upcoming campaign, thanks to the new TV deal and commercial revenue. We’ve seen the National Basketball Association teams spend lavishly throughout the summer, but no league in sports history has ever been as rich as the English top flight is now. As the new season set to embark, we’re going to take a look at the best signings of Premier League so far.

Paul Pogba

Arguably the best signing of the summer transfer for a world-record transfer fee of €110 million, Paul Pogba is exactly what Manchester United lacked in the central midfield. United hasn’t had an elite central midfielder since Paul Scholes hung his boots. The club unraveled this predicament by capturing one of the best young all-around players in the world.

Sadio Mane

After signing for rivals Liverpool from Southampton for £34 million, Mane will try to imitate what Luis Suarez did for the Reds, scoring goals and taking over games.

Since the Uruguayan left, Liverpool has struggled to replace the prolific striker. Could Sadio Mane be the new Luis Suarez? Former City winger Scott Sinclair has been quoted saying the 24-year-old reminds him of Suarez. “Sadio Mane is an excellent signing who can just ghost past defenders and he reminds me a little bit of Luis Suarez,” per BBC Sport.

“Liverpool look like they mean business – they blew away some top teams under Klopp last season and he has had a bit more time with the players now to help them find some consistency.”

Ilkay Gundogan

Pep Guardiola’s first signing as a City boss was the Germany international, Ilkay Gundogan. When fit, the 25-year is old has the potential to be a world-class player and the best signing former Manchester great Paul Scholes reckons.

“I think Gundogan is a really impressive player. I’ve seen a lot of him at Borussia Dortmund.”

“But I think he has a lot of injury problems, which could be a problem.

“If he can stay fit, I think he can be a fantastic player. I also think he is a great value for the money Manchester City paid for him. I think he is a bargain.”

Gundogan is eyeing the season first Manchester derby to return from his injury on September 10.

N’golo Kante

Kante, 25, who is often compared to the glorious Claude Makélélé, left the Premier League title holder’s Leicester City, after his first campaign to join Chelsea on in a deal worth around £30 million. The France international was brilliant for the Foxes as he anchored Leicester’s midfield.

Prior to Chelsea signing the 25-year-old, Makélélé urged Kante to join an elite European club.

“For me, he has a great deal he can improve on,” said Makélélé, per Metro.

“If he continues like this, to work hard, he will become a key player in a big European team. When I imagine him with (PSG midfielder) Marco Verratti, I reckon it would be a real pleasure. He has to aim for that level.

“Do you know the most important quality for a holding midfielder? It is generosity. And everyone can see that N’Golo has it,” Makélélé concluded.

Ashley Williams

Although Williams doesn’t match up to John Stones, who Everton sold to Man City for £47.5 million, the 31 year-old signed £11 million deal With Everton on a three-year contract and has been a solid defender for Swansea since his arrival from Stockport County in 2008.

Per The Guardian, “I’ve had eight great years at Swansea and, for me, the new challenge was something I felt I needed, so I’m delighted to have joined Everton,” said Williams.

“I really can’t wait to get out there at Goodison. I’ve always enjoyed playing on the Goodison pitch, so it will be nice to be an Everton player and experience what it’s all about when I’m part of the home team.”
