Striker and Bench

Up top, expect for Pochettino to give Vincent Janssen yet another chance to get his Tottenham career headed in the right direction. The Dutch front man needs a goal from open play in the worst sort of way. Perhaps he can find it at Anfield.

More importantly, he’ll provide the rest of the young squad a place to hit the ball when there don’t seem to be better options. Having a release valve like that in the starting XI could be hugely beneficial for Spurs. In all honesty, it’s his best skill at the moment.

More from Tottenham Hotspur

The bench could really feature some interesting names for Tottenham. As I mentioned earlier, I think Marcus Edwards will get the opportunity to see the pitch from the substitute’s bench. Don’t be surprised if striker Shayon Harrison also gets a look. He’s played well for the U23 squad this season, and it might be time to see if he’s ready for first team football.

The rest of the bench should be made up of first team regulars who Pochettino will hope to leave sitting beside him for most of the match. Someone like Erik Lamela could come on if the match is close in the second half, but otherwise, the match should be limited due young players and players firmly outside the first team.
