Tottenham v Arsenal: Who has the edge at each position? Position by position breakdown of the NLD
Shkodran Mustafi v Eric Dier
Tottenham really miss Toby Alderweireld. Not only is he the club’s best defender, the Belgian centre back also aids the Spurs attack with his terrific distribution from the back. Eric Dier has really struggled to replicate what Alderweireld provides the club on a regular basis.
Arsenal, on the other hand, made an excellent summer signing in the form of Shkodran Mustafi. The German international has been terrific since his arrival. In many ways, he’s shown to be the perfect partner for Gunner stalwart Laurent Koscielny.

Tottenham have to be concerned with Eric Dier’s lack of form this season. Even before Alderweireld’s injury, he was pretty poor in the defensive midfield. There are major questions about his ability to handle the Arsenal attack.
This might be the spot on the pitch where the biggest performance gap exists. Mustafi is playing like one of the best centre backs in the Premier League. Dier is playing like a starlet entirely out of his depth. Arsenal have a huge advantage here.
