1. Danny Rose

Before Mauricio Pochettino arrived at Tottenham, suggesting that Danny Rose could become the Spurs captain would have elicited howls of laughter from fans at White Hart Lane. Now, he strikes me as the best choice to take over the captaincy once Hugo Lloris is done with it.

Rose isn’t the most talented player Tottenham have, but he is the man who plays the hardest every match. I’ve written on several occasions that Rose is the club’s heartbeat. What better quality could there be for a Tottenham captain to possess?

More from Tottenham Hotspur

The only thing working against Rose is his age. He’s 26, which certainly isn’t old, but does make him one of the oldest members of the squad. Lloris could hang on to the armband too long for Rose to remain in his prime.

All Tottenham fans have learned not to bet against Danny Rose though. He’ll run through a wall for the club and there isn’t another member of the squad I’d rather have lead the troops on the pitch. Rose has had a terrific career ascendancy and it could culminate with becoming Tottenham’s next captain.
