Bournemouth are the latest team to win promotion to the Premier League and remain in the top flight.

The South Coast club came in to existence in 1890 as Boscombe St. John’s Institute F.C. The name was officially changed to AFC Bournemouth in 1972.

Dean Court is the Cherries’ home ground. With a capacity of less than 11,500, it is the smallest stadium in the league. Seating was never a problem for Bournemouth as the team spent almost its entire existence in the lower depths of English football.

Bournemouth’s fortunes changed during the past decade. First the Cherries won promotion to League One at the end of the 2009-2010 season. Three years later they were promoted to the Championship.

More from Premier League

Under manager Eddie Howe, the Cherries won the Championship division in just two years. The club’s first place finish in 2014-2015 resulted in automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Bournemouth survived its first season with a 16th place finish. Of course the organization is hoping that they can continue to remain in the EPL with the big boys.

Other than winning the Championship crown, Bournemouth’s other major trophy was the 1983-1984 League Cup.
