Tottenham show they’re losing patience with Vincent Janssen
Tottenham are shopping for another striker
Tottenham haven’t completely given up on striker Vincent Janssen, but it’s safe to say they’re concerned. That’s why Daniel Levy and company are already investigating the possibility of adding a new striker in the January transfer window.
The club’s primary target isn’t exactly a new name for Spurs fans. The club tried to pry Sandro Ramirez from Barcelona during the past three transfer windows. Now that he’s made the move to Malaga, the club feel they have a better chance to bring him to England.
Despite the length of time he’s been linked with a move to White Hart Lane, it’s important to remember that Sandro is still just 21-years-old. Purchasing him would allow Mauricio Pochettino another immediate option up front, while also providing the club another long-term prospect. That’s a rare combination during the winter window.
Sandro has been good, but not great, this season leading the line for Malaga. He’s found the back of the net five teams in 12 La Liga matches for the club. That play has earned him a respectable Whoscored.com player rating average of 7.02. It should also be said that Sandro isn’t exactly surrounded by world-class attacking talent at his current club.
That fact should give Spurs fans even more optimism that his play could be even better at Tottenham. He certainly wouldn’t be counted on to shoulder the full load of the club’s attack. The club are looking to purchase striker cover for Harry Kane, not a replacement for the England star.
His arrival would clearly be bad news for Vincent Janssen. The Dutch hitman was brought in this summer to serve as Kane’s backup but has struggled mightily. He’s struggled to adjust to the speed of Premier League football and is still in search of his first league goal from open play. Pochettino hasn’t written him off, but he also isn’t prepared to depend on him during a season where the club want to push for a Premier League title.

The real question in this matter is whether or not Tottenham are willing to make a large enough bid to pry him away from Malaga. The La Liga club currently sit 11th in the table and have hopes of moving up into contention for Europa League qualification. They certainly don’t want to give Sandro up after just a few months of service.
That reality means Levy might have to open up the Spurs coffers more than he’d like. It’s hard to imagine a bid under £20 million being accepted by Malaga. It will be interesting to see if Pochettino and company see Janssen as a big enough flop to justify that sort of expense to replace him.
