Two years ago Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid were paired together in the Champions League round of 16. Back then each side was victorious over the other at home by matching 1-0 scorelines. The tie was decided on penalties with Atletico coming out on top.

Leverkusen is led by striker Javier Hernandez up front. The former Manchester United player has become a major part of the German side’s offense. Then there’s Turkish midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu who has five goals and six assists so far in all competitions.

More from Champions League

Atletico currently sit sixth in La Liga. Despite this, the club has a potent attack with Yannick Carrasco, Kevin Gameiro and Antoine Griezmann up front. Goalkeeper Jan Oblak is one of the best in Europe. Unfortunately Oblak suffered a dislocated shoulder this past weekend and will be sidelined for about four months.

This will be another close contest but it’s expected that Atletico Madrid will come out on top.
