1. Ross Barkley

When rumors of Ross Barkley moving from Everton to Tottenham began, I laughed them off. However, the more I think about it, the more sense a January move makes for both clubs.

Ronald Koeman has clearly had it with his talented midfielder. He’s tried everything he knows to motivate the young Englishman. He’s benched him, called him out in the press, and tried to coddle him behind the scenes. Nothing has worked.

A change of scenery could be best for Everton and Barkley. If he does move, Tottenham would present him with an excellent chance to kickstart his career.

Astute Spurs fans are curious as to where Barkley would fit in Pochettino’s lineup. At first, I had the same question. I just couldn’t see him knocking Christian Eriksen or Dele Alli out of their attacking midfield spots. He also doesn’t have the pace to thrive on the wing.

More from Tottenham Hotspur

The right position for Barkley at Tottenham would be as a more defensive midfielder. Imagine him playing the Harry Winks role next to a true midfield destroyer. Barkley could be vital to Spurs when they’re trying to breakdown stubborn Premier League defenses.

Now that we’ve established that the move makes sense for both clubs, it becomes a matter of price. Unfortunately, it’s hard to imagine Levy meeting Everton’s £30 million valuation of the talented midfielder. I’d love to see him at Spurs, but think the odds are moderately against this move happening in January.
