Real Madrid may not be able to afford Dele Alli

Unlike many Tottenham fans, I’m certain that Real Madrid have the cash necessary to pry Dele Alli away this summer. Unfortunately for fans of the La Liga giants, the price tag is going to prove much too costly.

I can only imagine what sort of price Daniel Levy would quote Florentino Perez for the precocious young midfielder. The figure of £50 million has been thrown about, but that certainly wouldn’t be enough to tempt the Premier League title contenders.

That doesn’t mean that Dele is untouchable though. Every player has his prize in Levy’s mind. In fact, I believe I have real insight as to what it would take for Real Madrid to be successful in this endeavor. Perez and company would simply need to build Tottenham’s new stadium to acquire the talented Englishman.

You may be wondering why Spurs will feel so differently about Dele in comparison to previous stars like Gareth Bale and Luka Modric. Each player blazed the transfer path from London to Madrid in seasons past. In truth, both players are significantly better than Dele is currently at the time of their Premier League departures.

Tottenham are a different club now though. Chiefly, Levy finally has a manager he believes in with Mauricio Pochettino. With all due respect to Harry Redknapp, he never had the Spurs’ chairman’s full confidence. It’s not hard to understand that logic from Levy either.

Levy truly believes that Pochettino can help Tottenham consistently punch above their financial weight. That’s particularly important when the club will be strapped for transfer cash while building their new grounds.

More from Tottenham Hotspur

It’s not as if Spurs haven’t been planning for this stretch of time for years though. Most notably, they’ve gone to great lengths to lock up the majority of their young core to new contracts as of late. That includes Alli who signed a bumper new deal this year. Handing out those higher wage packets was designed to help Tottenham resist transfer swoops from clubs like Real Madrid.

The “special relationship” between Tottenham and Real Madrid is a thing of the past. Los Blancos won’t get any sort of discount if they want to sign Dele Alli. They’ll simply need to pony up the money to finance the construction of an entirely new stadium. I suppose stranger things have happened, but I feel pretty safe about Dele remaining with Spurs for the foreseeable future.
